Here is an 8 foot long shooting board that I made from a $20.00 straight edge guide and a section of 3/4 BC plywood . You can see the connection joint ( I drilled through the guide after setting it up to within .006” deviation for parralelism across the entire span .The guide extends approx 3 ” at each end . This jig has proven to be fast to setup ( 2 clamps ) , NO MORE CHAULK LINES and almost splinter free ! . Hope the idea helps the L J family . POPS

we always knew them as a ” texas ” guide ,
on job sites .
every one made their own for their own saw .
i was in cal years ago ,
and found a 4” and an 8” alum. ones ,
that have a replacable masonite shoe ,
that is adjustable ,
for moving and cutting new straight edge as it gets trashed !

Not quite what I expected for a shooting board ;-)) No plane!! Looks like it should do it’s job though.

Hey Popshop,
I agree with Topamax…......but I am sure a lot of LJ’s would be happy with one like this…..good job.

You can get double duty from the board by setting the opposite side up to handle your router.
In that case it becomes the “Alberta Guide” <g>
