I found a nice piece of spalted red maple from the firewood pile. I made these earrings for my honey pie with it. I resawed a thin slice with a handsaw and then cut out the basic shape with a coping saw. I sanded them to their final shape, up to 320 grit. I drilled the hole with a pin vise and a really tiny drill bit. Three coats of Formby’s Tung Oil Finish and sterling silver hardware from the craft store. To say she was pleased would be an understatement. These are really easy, and I have a bunch of hardware left over. They’ll make nice gifts.
