Project Information

Built this oak waste basket for my wife's birthday.

Didn't do any trigonometry to make it - just laid the rails and posts on my worktable and estimated the angles. I started with the rails a little longer than I wanted, and cut them shorter and shorter until I got the angle right.

Posts are 3/4, rails are 2/4, and slats are 1/4 ply that I had left over from a previous project.

Antique oil for finish. It needs another coat but that will have to wait until I get back to the shop…

Herm, That's a beautiful piece, but for trash? I think you should come up with a use for it other than trash. It's just to nice for that. IMHO

Very classy and elegant design. Good idea. I bother with some trigonometry table from internet. Yor way is easier and efficient.

That's a great looking trash container! It's going to make a great addition to the study!

Thank for the comments, guys.

It really was easier than it looks. The 6.5 degree angle used for the rails is the same for the top and bottom of the posts. Except on the rails it is angle left or right, for the posts it is tilt of the head.

$100 worth of QSWO made into a waste…basket! In this case, I will have to say that that is the best waste basket, ever! I have plans for making one of these. It is on a long list of projects that I am now able to tackle, since I retired.
