This mantle was for a customer. I did the stair rails for the house and was asked by the builders if I could make a shelf and mantle for the corner fireplace. The size is a little deceiving in the pic’s. The front of the mantle is just over 7’ and 52” tall, and is trapezoid shaped for air flow and wiring. It’s 51” between the legs and 8 1/5” tall for his electronics.
The little center style is removable. We put it in as his current TV weighs over 200 lbs, and we had some concerns of the mantle sagging a little bit. Eventually he’s going to get a flatsceen and the style will come out.
The unfinished skirt on the legs was an afterthought. Originally his white base trim was going to go around and finish the bottom off. I thought that was going to look pretty tacky and talked him into the oak skirt and cove.
The owner and I did a little hustling and late nights this past week as he wanted it done in time for a 4th of July party. The owner did the finishing on it.

Nicely done. The corner stuff can be a real bother, I imagine, but this fits in there and really looks good. I agree that the trim on the legs looks better than the white trim would. I like the edge treatment on the legs, just enough to add interest.

Very cool, watch the fire and TV all at once. Great idea.

a1Jim, it shouldn’t, it’s vented in the back and there’s enough lip on the shelf to disrupt the hot air from the fireplace.
Also in the plans in a little while are fake drawer fronts that pull down like I did on another cabinet to further push hot air away.
