This is a duplicate of a table I built a few years ago. A friend of ours wanted a good housewarming gift for someone.
The table is made of Oak and Walnut. It has a breadboard top. The drawer has half blind dovetails in the front cut with a crapsman jig and box joints in the back cut with a home made jig. It was my first time trying a shellac finish and I’ve found I really like it. Mortise and Tenon joints all around and a slight taper on the inside faces of the legs.
We still use the original in our dining room as a buffet.

That is a very sharp looking table! I’ve always been a fan of using contrasting woods in a project. You did a great job on the fit and finish on this table.

Very nice piece.
I have been looking for some samples of furniture that used contrasting wood types to help me vision a piece I am thinking of at the moment. Oak is one of the species I am tied into using, so seeing it used with walnut is great help in clarifying my vision.
If you get a chance, can you add more detail on the shellac finish you used? I like the way it looks and may be something I would like to try.
Thanks for sharing the great work, and to Woodworm’s point, I too would be afraid that it would never make it to the intended recipient. I have had that happen a few times with pieces I have made, but I take it as a complement.

The finish is just Bullseye Sealcoat, which is a 2 pound cut of Shellac (I think). I just brushed a coupe coats on with a couple cheapy sponge brushes. I should have hit it with some 0000 steel wool afterwards to really smooth it out. It was my first time using Shellac.

I really like this table. The breadboard ends really top off the look well. Very well done and thanks for letting us take a look.
