This is my first deck that I have built. It took longer than I thought it would but turned out nice. The decking material is called Garapa Gold that I had shipped in from East teak. The railing is Trex from Lowes and topped the hand railing with Ipe. I applied a UV oil which darkened the wood up quite a bit. I ran a string to line up all the screws which took forever but kept my lines straight. I used stainless steel trim head screws and pre drilled and counter sunk each one of them

Nice looking deck. Was the decking material pricey and how well will it hold up in you envirioment? I use to live in KY and know how brutal the winters can be.

The decking was around 24 bucks for a 12 foot 4/4 material. Along the same lines as composite. From what I have read this stuff will last for a long long time. Its amazing how hard it is.. I had to make sure all my tools were sharp…

David, this is a beautiful deck. You chose a nice set of woods that should last practically forever. Both woods are extremely resistant to rot and decay.
