Must have been in 2012 that a friend called me to offer a 10 foot piece of Yellow Cedar, maybe 2’ in diameter. I finished this bowl in 13, it is a foot in diameter and 4 1/2” high. It is the one I kept as an example of YC. The other’s have all found homes, maybe a dozen all together. The second bowl is 10.4” by 4”, others had quite different shapes. It is nice wood, tight grain, harder than Red Cedar. There was a bit of rot starting at the bottom, which gave the wood close to it a denim colour. Sorry, no pictures of that.

In its subtlety, John, that is a fetching bit of wood.

You being a machinist, its no wonder you are so good at turning things. All of your bowls are terrific, but this one is my favorite. The color is so warm, the grain is beautiful and the rounded lip gives it a nice softness.

I love the simple, classic shape. Great looking finish as well. I think you did that log proud.
