This project was an opportunity to feed two hobbies at the same time.

Cowboy Action shooting requires you to pack around a lot of gear and ammo. So everyone makes carts. This is my attempt at a cart for the sport.

To open space will house a small wood crate with the same look and feel (yet to be built) to carry ammo and tools.

It’s is made primarily of oak with a cabinet grade plywood bottom. Wheels are from Northern Supply. The axle is just a piece of steel rod.

The other hardware, handles and hooks were custom made by my father (he’s the one with a forge) from draft horse shoes for the handles and pony shoes for the hooks. He also made a ‘W’ from pony shoes to go on the front of the crate. The handles are comprised of three shoes. from the toe out, straighted (1 left, 1 right) for the portion to connect to the cart. The third shoe he split at the toe. Half goes on each handle to form the inside for a larger handle to grip. As a finishing touch, I painted them black and added the shiny silver horse shoe nails.

Final coat of finish went on after all the hardware and covered it as well to ensure it doesn’t rust.

Oh ya! I like it. The horse shoes are a wonderful addition.

Looks good. I did CAS for quite a few years and loved it. Need to get back into it. What’s your alias?

Very nice work! I’ve never heard of cowboy action shooting, but it seems like an awesome sport. BTW, oak seems like a perfect choice for this application. Good luck!

I found this video posted on Facebook and thought you might find it interesting…from what I understand, this guy is supposed to be the fastest quick draw in the world. Quick draw champ video

It’s a very nice and practical project.
