This is a bedroom sitting bench in sapele. I pulled this design directly from Thomas Moser. I love his designs and construction, but just can’t afford it. Only differences here were that this was made from on piece of Sapele, and I opted out of making through tenons on the top rail, and back rails.
This was a great exercise in taking a basic line drawing and some photos and bringing it to life in 3 dimensions. I did some prototyping with poplar for the seat bevel angles as well as the curve and taper on the back rest, which is surprisingly comfortable.

very simple design indeed. It’s a copy of a Thomas Moser Edo Bench, sans the through tenons.

It’s really easy. Less expensive, and less tear-out than mahogany. Real easy to find big boards too. Only problem is questionable sourcing.

Yeah, the edo stuff is pretty sweet. I am working on a bookcase design that is partially influenced by that as well. I’m tracking it on my Gorilla Glue blog.
