I completed this wall hanging nail cabinet in August 30, 2015. I used the plans and instructions from a Christopher Schwarz article on popular woodworking. Unlike the original, this one is made using Poplar, 2×4 Douglas Fir and quartersawn Red Oak (all materials where available in my shop at the time of the build). The main box, drawer fronts and some drawer sides were made using Poplar. The rest of the drawer sides where made using 1/4” Douglas Fir re-sawn from 2×4s I had laying around. The drawer bottoms were made using quartersawn Red Oak.
I would like to say that this project was fun, but the truth is that building and fitting 21 drawers was a pain in the butt and a real chore. Overall I’m real happy with the results and I’m glad to have ample storage for nails, screws and other fastners.
