I got the inspiration (and sketchup file!) for this William and Mary style book stand from other posts here on LJs. I modified the design slightly to suit my tastes / skillset (or lack thereof). This was my first serious attempt at hand cut dovetails, and it shows. There are gaps wide enough to drive a semi through. Nonetheless, it was a fun project and a great learning experience. I’m satisfied with the overall result, despite a few cosmetic flaws. I’m also glad to finally have a worthy home for the family Bible we got as a wedding gift.

One thing I’ll note for the benefit of any LJs who might attempt this project in the future: I found that our big Bible slid off the front of the stand too easily, so one of my modifications to the original design was add a little 1/4” lip to the front face, which holds the Bible up nicely. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for looking!
