This is my second gate project using a frame approach. The first (the last picture) ran the slate with spacing vertically. This one runs the slates on a 45 degree angle with no spacing and, I think, provides its own bracing. On one side I did add another brace. The first picture is taken before the gate was hung. Once hung, I thought it needed some top decoration and thus this final look. I like the side where the brace doesn’t show and hope it fits well with the Japanese feel of our garden and fence. I like, too, this approach because I could reuse many cedar boards that I had.
