We recently finished a kitchen remodel that involved a new counter top, new cook top, new microwave, new sink and all new back splash. The back splash was the small vertical variety that’s popular right now. To add to the remodel, we decided to add a cutting board to the trash compactor so the cutting board would be even with the counter top. I came up a wild idea to try and make something that would add to the back splash layout.
I started with buying 6 different types of hard wood then cut them in varying sizes to more or less match the vertical linear design of the back splash. Red Oak, Blood Wood, Mahogany, Maple, Walnut and Poplar were used in the design.
An interesting side note came up during the sanding. I found that the Blood Wood stained the rest of the wood a slight bit a fact that both my wife and I ended up liking quite a bit.
