I made this tailgate bench for my brother for his birthday. The tailgate is from a 1950 Chevy truck that he restored. The bench is made from pine and the seat is made of cypress. The license plate is an Indiana 1963 truck plate (1963 is his birth year).

Well I think that is very clever! Very nice conversation piece. But, if he restored the truck, doesn’t he need the tailgate?

I love this thing! Very creative, and I’m sure your brother will love it!

@PaulDoug,

The tailgate was in bad shape. It was cheaper to buy a new one that to fix the dents and rust in the old one.

I love it! Chevy’s! They never die! Maybe my Chevy tall gate will be on a bench some day, not to soon I hope she’s only 14.

Nice work!

Super cool. The only thing wrong is that it says Chevrolet instead of Ford. :)

A nice combination to make a memorable gift!

Curious, how did you find and old license plate?

That’s cool. I’ve seen the tailgate benches before but that’s the first I’ve seen with the license plate. Very nice.

I’ve seen several versions of these and they really are cool!
They’re not the most comfortable things to sit in for very long, but the ARE cool as all getout!

I like yours with the tag. Need to find a 1950 tag for it.

Do you have the instructions posted somewhere? Our daughter totaled her ‘93 Dodge and we want to make this for her for Christmas.
It’s beautiful!
