Here is my latest creation. What they call a 1×2 cue case. It is designed to hold 1 butt and 2 shafts of a pool cue. The sides are all from my brothers collection of 100 year old walnut and the top and bottom are figured cherry. the splines are from scraps of birds eye maple. I routered the edges too shed some weight and give it a slim look and recessed the latches. I had a friend laser engrave the lid with my design and I filled the 8 ball and cue tips (in the design) with black died epoxy. The finish is sprayed gloss lacquer. I made the tray out of 6 pieces of ultra-light MDF that I routered into half circles and glued together. I applied the fabric (with quilt batting) with fabric spray adhesive. My same friend also embroidered my customer’s initials for the inside of the lid.
The hinge had to be cut down to fit and mortised. That took more time than anything else on this case. I think I screwed the hinge on and off about a dozen times before I liked the fit of the lid!
I hope you like it.
