My 1st Indoor piece

well…here is my 1st piece I have built to go in the house. It is made of red oak that I bought on Craiglist for $40.00. The wood was leftovers from a remodel. They all had a 45 degree mitre cut on one side. The majority of the pieces were only 3” inches after the mitre was removed. So, I had to a lot of glue ups. The top is made up of 7 boards. I do not have a jointer, so I used my table saw and planer to clean up the boards. I tapered the legs on all 4 sides using my table saw and Incra Mitre 1000SE. The finish is 3 applications of General Finish oil based warm cherry, followed by 2 coats of General Finish Sanding sealer, and then 3 coats of General Finish Satin top coat. This was also my 1st project making dovetails. I learned a lot during this project. It did not turn out perfect, but I am VERY pleased with it. Here is a link to more pictures that I took during the various stages of construction….http://s229.photobucket.com/albums/ee162/ralmand/Office%20Table/?albumview=slideshow
Now I have to think what I can tackle next!

Looks good. The color turned out great and the dove tails are a nice touch. Better than I could do.

Randy,

That looks really COOL! I think you did a wonderful job on it!

That Life magazine is trying to make it older than it is? :) :)

Thanks Joe… The Life magazine was a part of my wife’s grand dads things. It is a 1945 edition. I also have 6 Popular Mechanics from his things that are dated in the 1941’s. They are really cool to read.
