We are having our harvest festival this weekend and I thought a somewhat rustic box would be fitting .
This box is made from hickory that has just the right look for this style and made good use of these pieces of lumber and added a nice character . The corners are mitred and doweled and capped of with square buttons and I gave the lid a floating look and added a simple handle to finish the design.
The box is 11” W x 7” D x 3 3/4” H with beveled sides cut at 7 DEG. compound angle and lined with brown suede cloth sewn onto poster board .The finish is BLO and wax .
I wanted this to look like a old box you would find on a farm .
This will go to our wood workers guild show which is part of the festival .

Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome .

Klaus

Klaus,

Nice work as always. Are the side nubs functional as in through tenon or decorative? I’m thinking Oriental Palace vs. Canadian farm.

Beauty Klaus.
Should be a walk at the guild show.
It must be the time of year for that. Our guild show starts tonight.

Beautiful box Klaus, and I have to agree with Paul’s comment. I see a prize on the horizon.

Klaus, nice look and wood choice. I like the simple form and the square caps are an especially nice touch. That, the handle and the angled sides combine to make this far more interesting than just a plain dowelled box. This should disappear early from the booth.

Nice one, Klaus…..I like the shape and wood choice. The little “through tenons” give it a nice craftsman look.

Klaus, another beautiful box. The striping in the wood, angled sides and squared pegs are all nice features of this design. The photography is also super.

My favorite lumber Klaus. It’s a beauty. I have doweled miters many times but never thought of capping them. Great touch. Looks like you accomplished what you were after. Enjoy the upcoming fest. Brats and beer too?

Oh you are a worry Klaus,
Yet another brilliantly constructed box, along with its motivational aspects that will be sending me back to the timber pile yet again to hone more of my wood working skills!...7deg eh!!
The thought and effort you have taken in the framing of the subject box for posting is worthy of mention and recognition as well.
A well deserved DT3 entry!

Just out of interest how much effort did it take and how many shots did you do?

Now I couldnt possible sign off wihout providing a bit of a encouragement to other LJs, So please read on:-

Guys and Girls Here we have an excellent example of how to showcase your posted projects and land a Daily Top 3 entry in the process.
So for those vertigo challenged LJs take a good look at the project and its associated framing, noting how it was done, its well work the effort to you and your equally well made projects, Just a little hint !!

Well done Klaus
