After a long hiatus from my workshop, I was dying to be a little creative. I had a couple of pallets that were waiting to be disassembled, and decided on a simple coffee table build. As always the challenge for me, when working with post-consumer wood, is the balance between cleaning the wood up so much it looks new (and is as a result more easily worked) or leaving it as is – or wherever in between. A few trips through the planer, but not so much as to remove the character completely, the jointer, sanded it, puttied surface holes on the table top. A mahogany trim (from a hardwood pallet) and 6 coats of varathane later, here she is.
It was a good project to get my feet wet again, looking forward to planning something more ambitious for the next one.
