This is my Dynamo Man reboot. My buddy and fellow Lumberjock John Hutchinson is the designer of this automated lamp which we call Dynamo Man. You can see John’s posting from last week: http://lumberjocks.com/projects/181578

He challenged me to do a version in my style. Here are my results: I used intarsia to build my guy: He is made from Maple for the skin, Walnut for the clothes, Padauk for the hat and shoes, Ebony for the hair, mustache, and belt. The case is Birdseye Maple and Padauk. He runs on a small 120vac 16rpm continuous motor. I am not sure what he does for a living but I am going to add a vintage Edison bulb for the light and 2 or 3 whisky barrels behind him. Possibly a bootlegger? Sorry John, even as a bootlegger, my guy has more class than yours.

You can see a short video of him in motion here (I apologize for the quality, I used my cell phone):

Thanks for looking. You can also see more of John’s fantastic wood in motion video’s here:

Oh yeah, smart guy. I see your scrawny cranker and I raise you a fat boy. Back in a week. :-)

Nice work Todd! Your color choice looks very industrial.
I still have a problem with the crank and cranker going backwards.

I am starting to have feelings of déjà vu!

And, it appears as if we have a challenge in process! May the best crank win!

The motor randomly turns clockwise or counterclockwise so sometimes the crank goes forward and sometimes backwards. I am just happy it actually works : )

You can bring it to the White House ONLY if it blows up.

Otherwise the clock is sweet!

WooHoo! Challenge met and overcome in grand style, Todd! I really like the intarsia figure. Oh, and I’m sure it just slipped your mind to actually include the link to John’s videos.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Wonderful! you two widget warriors.

What motors do you use for these. In the video I noticed that they are not very loud.

Thanks for the post.

Very well done to both… beautiful wood choices on the Little Guy!

Very nicely done, Todd! John H.’s projects can become addictive if you’re not careful.
