After seeing Neil Larson’s retirement shadow box I had to post mine as my first project!
I completed this just before my retirement in October of 2003 using the tools at the NAS Saufley Field base wood shop. It is made out of Red Oak with a wipe-on poly finish.
Besides my command and “awards” board in the centrer, it has a statuette of the Lone Sailor to Starboard (referenced from Aft looking Forward) and a statuette of “The CHIEF” to Port. Backgrounds for both are mirrors etched with the names of the two ships I was stationed aboard for my 10 years at sea; USS CALLAGHAN (DDG-994) and USS JOHN PAUL JONES (DDG-53), both Guided Missile Destroyers.
Enjoy and thanks for looking.
Derby,
Gas Turbine Systems Technician (GS) Senior Chief, Retired
