This was a longer term project. The lap steel body is made from mahogany with an flamed maple top. The fretboard is made from olivwod with mother of pearl inlay. It has a really nice blues tone and was fun to built.

Been toying with the idea of making one for my daughter. Your lap steel is just gorgeous and nicely done radius on the fretboard—how did you do it? What is the finish? More details please.

Hi Rick, The radius is a matter of using handtools and using an sanding block with radius. You do not need the radius for a lapsteel though. The strings will never touch the fretboard.
If you want ii can send you the plan where i based my lap steel on by email. I also got some other plans if you like. And if you got questions during your build, dont hesitate to ask. I have been changing some of the dimensions in the original plan. If you change the length dimensions you always have to keep in mind that the scale length needs to be changed too. Otherwise the instrument will turn out to be unplayable, there are digital tools to help out on that one, like the Jet Fret calculator app.
It is the third lapsteel i have built, it is really fun to do. I think that the next one will me a Weissenborn lapsteel guitar. But that is quite a different puppy.

Best regards
