Took a class at Marc Adams School June 15-19. The instructor Graeme Priddle from New Zealand was outstanding. I am brand new to turning, having just a midi lathe and turned a couple of pens.
The focus of the class was more on surface embellishment, carving, pyrography and stippling.
These were the first pieces I have made. It was nice to try a number of different tools, and so as I expand my skills I know what new “toys” I want to get.
Turning the ‘canoe’ was a new experience doing off center work.

Dave, very nice first pieces. I hope when I try to make some bowls on my lathe that they come out half as good. Nice job

Nice work, you could have had no better teacher than Graeme. His work is outstanding, hope you took in everything he had to offer.

Thanks for checking it out – should finish the more difficult piece that I turned at the school, but have not yet finished the sculpting with hand chisels to manage the surface.
Even learned some kiwi -
‘chillybin’ = igloo cooler
‘torch’ = flashlight
my favorite – ‘hard to find as rockinghorse dung’
Cheers
