We use our fireplace a lot during the winter and often bring wood into the room and just lay it on the floor. Well I got tired of looking at the split wood lyng there and decided that when I had a break in my committed projects, that I would do a few for around the house.
So I did a quick simple design and built this out of pine. It has mortise and tenon joints for all the rails, which are spaced to allow any damp wood to breathe a bit. The top is screwed on. I used some leftover hinges and a simple drawer pull for the lid handle.
My wife is now staining and varnishing it for me. When finished and in place, I will add another photo.

Hi Andy,
Yes it has a solid 3/4” bottom … made of 3 pieces, the middle piece floats to allow for seasonal expansion … I appreciate the comments. I tend to think this will be a ‘winner’ since my wife is my best critic, and she is willing to work on the finishing … ;-)
