A few months ago I found some wood on CL and bought a few pieces. I was told that this prticular piece was curly maple – I honestly don’t have a clue whether he was truthful or not but frankly I don’t care. It had so much character I couldn’t resist.
The other good thing was that it was FLAT ! No twist, no center bow and it planed out beautiful.
I ended up with enough good wood for the top and the side and end skirts. The table is 5’ long, 10 1/2” wide and 36” tall.
Finished it with 6 coats high gloss water base polyeurathane with painted grey poplar legs with the polyeurathane over the paint.

Very nice, very nice indeed. Great figure, looks like maple to me, but regardless, beautiful wood, straight and flat, not much more you could ask for.

Nice work, Dick.

That looks like flame birch to me, as opposed to curly maple. Beautiful board regardless.
