2 More Archways and Kitchen Niche Cabinets

Project by cabinetmaster posted 156 days ago 805 views 0 times favorited 20 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Here are 2 more archways and cabinets that I recently completed. They are made from Mahoganey with crotch mahoganey veneer for the panels. The arches are made with stiles and rails with a burl veneer panel and a cockbead molding inside the stiles and rails. The arch over the door is only 3/4” thick and will be trimmed out with 5” casing. The archway between the cabinets is 19” deep and we made a substructure from scrap plywood to form the arch. I then used a 3/8” bendy board for the arched panel and veneered it with mahogany burl veneer. The ached frame was laminated up with 1/4” strips to get to 3/4”. I then applied a cockbead to the inside of the frame. The stone was placed before we put the arch up.

All critiques, good or bad will be appreciated.

That is some beautiful mahogany veneer. Great job on the cabinets and archway.

Thanks Charlie and Karson. These are in the same room as the 2 big islands. I built another cabinet this week that has 2 refrigerator drawers in the bottom and a coffee machine in the middle section with pocket doors to hide it. The refrig drawers also have applied panels with veneered panels. I’ll post pictures soon of it.

Beautiful veneer. Great woodwork! That stonework scares me. Blue? It just dosn’t thrill me.

Thanks everyone. Jim, what you just said reminds me of my earlier years in cabinet building. An older gentleman I worked with would always say, “We take pride in what we hide” after making a boo boo.

Very nice. Superb grain consideration with the burl veneer. I dream of a comission like that! I hit some ground rule doubles, and a couple of homeruns to pay the bills, but that my friend is GRAND SLAM!
Keep up the good work
