A friend of mine and his wife bought a new home in north Georgia. The previous owner was a cabinet maker and left all sorts of goodies in the shop like a radial arm saw, some palm sanders, a combination disk/belt sanding station, along with lots of hardware, sanding belts and disks and tons of lumber and cabinet-grade plywood. When we visited with them in early May, he gave me some shorts of maple, walnut and cherry.

I made them an end grain cutting board last week in anticipation of them visiting with us this week. I used wood I got from them and added some wood I had—a couple of strips of padauk I got from Andy.

Overall size is about 13” x 13” x 1-½”. I would have made it bigger but it had to fit inside of their motorcycle saddle bags. Finish is 4 applications of mineral oil.

Beautiful work. I need to work on my cutting board skills.

Beautiful board, and there is no better place to live than Northern Georgia.

Hey Don, beautiful board! And a great gift….so is your friend a woodworker too? Or did he just score the tools and wood?

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Monte—Try it. You’ll like it. You can probably knock out some of these for your shows.

Chris—North GA is stunning. Nannette and I have visited Helen, GA (about 10 miles from my friend’s house) long before we ever knew those friends. We are looking forward to going back again.

Candy—Echo, echo, echo.

Jeff—See what you got me started doing? My friend is not a woodworker yet. The previous owner just left a bunch of good stuff in the shop with the sale of the house. Nannette and I are going to north GA in the fall to help them build a dining room table. They’ve already picked out the design—a farm table with a trestle base. I’m planning on including breadboard ends on the top.

Randy—That’s what friends do!

How cool is that? You’re going to beautiful north GA and helping to teach your friends woodworking…..you’re a lucky man.

Thanks, Andy. I’m glad to hear that your board is being used. Most of the ones I make and gift are displayed and not used.

You know it, Dan! I would have made it a bit bigger if they had come in a vehicle with more storage that a motorcycle saddle bags. Thanks for the compliment!
