I whipped these up for my assistant and her future husband. Molly is getting married soon and will be leaving to live in the Mississippi Delta on her husband’s family farm. My wife and I wish the best for her and Julius. Ya’ll sit in these and watch the sunset over Old Man River until you both are old fogies like us.
Best wishes to ya’ll, Molly and Julius.
These chairs are made of Bald Cypress with stainless steel bolts and screws. I glued all of the joints with Titebond III glue. All of the wood was planed to 1 inch thick. All screws that would come in contact with your body have been countersunk and plugged with a 3/8 inch cypress bung.
I bought Norm’s plans and made a few modifications. I have a set of full size templates made from 1/2 inch MDF or 1/4 hardboard for all parts and drilling schemes several years ago and these template make producing these chairs much faster and easier.
If you Lumberjocks haven’t made some of these chairs, I encourage you to do so. Once you sit in one, you don’t want to get up.

Very nice project, you have inspired me. I made a set of templates last winter, but never got around to building the chairs. I think it’s time to get started.

You like making these, don’t you Marty? Another quality product from the workshop of Sawdustonmyshoulders!
I have my own version of them called “Arkansas chair.” It’s actually an old sofa we hauled out to the front porch. Ma wants to cut it in half sose Pa could spit his tobacco into the fishin’ worm box. Ma don’t like sharin’ her seat with the beagle pups though. She keeps an old coon skin nearby to trick ‘em into chasin’ it and gettin’ out of her seat so she can snap the beans from the garden.

I’ve always liked the look of these chairs but I find them to be the most uncomfortable chairs, to sit in or to get up from.
