Turned End Grain Cutting Board

Project by dustbunny posted 161 days ago 751 views 6 times favorited 17 comments Add to Favorites Watch

My daughter stopped by a few weeks ago as I was playing in the shop. She spotted some of my cutting boards and said she would like one. I asked her if it was for chopping veggies, she said the only thing she uses a board for is cutting pizza…..well off went my brain..I could make it round…I could do a quilt pattern…I could turn it on the lathe for a grip ridge and drip groove on one side and flat on the other…and I could sand it while it was spinning !! Yeah, so that’s what I did.
The board is 12 1/2 ” in dia. x 1 1/4”, the pictures are before the mineral oil bath and after. It is made with padauk, cherry and walnut.

This was a fun board to make, and I think I’m going to do some more of these with different woods.

Hello Lisa …this is an awesome design and if you thinned it down a bit , it would make a great Lazy Susan as well : ) The bearings are cheap and can be found in lots of stores . Are you going to the LJ picnic sponsored by Purplev this September in Eastern MA ? I live in Western MA , not too far from the CT / NY borders, about halfway between Hartford and Albany.

Thanks Dusty, I have considered doing a Lazy Susan with these patterns, just not enough time in a week. I’ll get to it eventually. I think if I do them I will call them Lazy Lisa’s in honor of the Lazy Larry’s. LOL.
I am planning on going to the LJ picnic, depending on which weekend they decide to have it. Grizzly is having their Pennsylvania tent sale Sept 19th. I’ve already planned on dragging my husband there for the weekend. I am saving for a new table saw or band saw. Or maybe both (that’s where the husband fits in….big wallet, ssshhhh he doesn’t have a clue )LOL
So depending, I will most likely see you there.

How in the world did I miss this one. How sweet it is. Got a request from my wife tonight to make a cutting board for a wedding gift for a friend of hers daughter. I might look into doing a round one. Thanks for the post.
