Rings

This is a bowl I turned as part of my “Rings” series. This isn’t my best inlay work. The walnut burl was a little fragile and unforgiving so I have some filler to accomodate my short comings. The rings are walnut burl, bubinga, and ribboned mahogany. The diamonds are cocobolo. The background behind the rings is Pine. I did the marquetry as a single piece, taping it together. Then just routed out the entire circle to complete the inlay.
The bowl is maple. I made this to look like the ring was turned off of the bowl, however, the bowl was very difficult for me to turn with my lack of experience. So I decided to use Beech hardwood for the ring and did it as a seperate piece. The only way to tell it’s seperate is because it is Beech and not maple. If you don’t know your woods though you don’t even notice the difference. The finish is “The Good Stuff”, a food safe finish from Grizzly.

Anyhow, I was going to write a story like I have been about the rings but I don’t think it’s enjoyed as much as I had hoped. It just makes me look crazy. LOL As always I welcome constructive criticism positive or negative.

Keith,
Another fine ring project. I think incorporating different wood skills like turning and inlay makes a project even more exciting. Awesome job. P.S (we’re all crazy) post what you feel I enjoy reading it (takes one to know one)

Very intricate design. I love it!. Great turning and inlay work.

We ALL go around in circles now and then, so the rings are an expressive way to release the tension. haha

Love ALL your ring posts.

Keep it up.
