My wife needed two new easels for her Montessori preschool (the old ones were being held together by pipe cleaners). I choose to go with the Wood Magazine plans and watched the Wood Whisper for some inspiration. However, she did want some design changes and took out some of the great features of that plan. But I agree, these will work better for her. She did not want a white board or chalk board, since all of the work is done on paper so they can take it home to share with their parents. Also, without the whiteboard, the kids won’t be as tempted to use the permanent markers on them. Also, the kids need to be able to put up their own paper and she felt the roll of paper and cleats would be too difficult for the young kids. Instead of cleats, I went with magnets to hold the paper. They should be plenty strong. For the writing/painting service, I went with MDF with a thick layer of polyurethane, which should be durable and be able to be cleaned.
I think I will put a simple shelf in the center of them, so store the paper.
