Based on a table by James Krenov – nothing wrong with aiming high is there? I altered the design by making a four part floating top and using the construction glue-up to add a contrasting strip of swamp matai. Timber is all ex 4×2 pine ‘stolen’ from the carpentry workshop, all second hand rafters complete with lots of 4” nails.
My main aim was to play with a couple of hand tools new to me, spokeshave and compass plane. This pine version started out as a practice run, supposed to be quick-and-dirty but ended up just fine so I never made the supposed real one.
I added a little veneer motif to each leg, mahogony and pine, to tie into the diamond on the top.
If I make this again (and I probably will) I’ll try a three part top (similar stripe) and three legs.

i had the same thoughts as Kiwi1969 about the radiata. I’m encouraged because I have 22 Ha of the stuff and I just bought a Peterson sawmill and some of the trees are already millable size.
Table looks great! Nicely done.

Your table is very nice and I really like the contrast with the inlay.

Expect more great things from this girl. If this is the beginning Kiwi….I can’t wait to what is to come.
