One of the girls I work with asked if I could build her a table to go with the three bar stools she had just bought. What could I say… I’m a LumberJock!
Right after she asked, I received the latest issue of Wood Magazine that had the perfect design. The bistro table was just what she was looking for. I made a couple minor modifications, mine is a little taller and the top is solid rather than the mortise and tenon slats in the Wood Magazine version.
The big downfall of the whole thing… she wants it painted white to match her stools. I can admit that I hate painting wood, but I’ll do it. Not without snapping some pictures of the completed table first though!
So at this stage, it’s still not done. The top frame has not been attached as I need to drill some slots so I can attach the top with some buttons.
The overall dimensions are 42” tall and the top is 36” square.

I was looking at that table plan as well. Nice modification!

cool table…maybe you should paint it a different color…and tell her that as the “artiste” you had to make some decisions…then choose purple—-then she will say…”okay—-no color!”

I saw the same plans. Great idea taking some photos before painting it white. Nice job!

Good job Darryl. What wood did you use, poplar since it was going to be painted?

This is made with some Pine I got from my brother-in-law that had the trees from a piece of property he was building on milled up. And I got it for the best price ever… FREE!!

You might want to seal it with shellac if there is any possibility of bleed through. You did a nice job. What was your reason for going with a solid top?

I’ve never worked with shellac, but that is the plan to seal the wood prior to painting. I used the solid top as the table is going to be used indoors rather than outside like the Wood Magazine table and I thought the solid top would give it a more “table” like feel (if that makes any sense!!).
As of tonight, I’ve finished the construction phase of the table. I need to apply a little wood filler to a couple spots before I finish sanding. I’m pretty happy with how this project has come together though.
