My Hummingbird Lamp was an experiment in testing the limits of a tiny 16-RPM motor. But more importantly, it was an exercise in collaboration. My friend Lori Andrews (who happens to be an employee at the local Woodcraft store) is an EXCELLENT decorative painter. I could have slapped some paint on the hummingbirds, but I knew Lori would knock them out of the park with her magic airbrush. And she did!

For the central lamp, I had the lame idea of a simple lampshade with some glued-on artificial flowers. When I shared that thought with Lori, she winced and said, “Why don’t you use a hummingbird feeder?”

DUH. And the rest is history.

You can watch the video at … https://vimeo.com/134346624

It runs a little long, but hey, I LOVE the music!

Excellent idea’s from both you and Lori Andrew’s paint job on the birds. I watched the video also, the video brings it to life, way better then looking at the still shot. This is unique and I look for that all the time on this site. Nice work !
Thanks for sharing!

I like the floating quality of the birds, John. Glad you are open to suggestions (feeder). Lori’s paint job is excellent. Your videos delight and bring these creations to life. Thanks for sharing.

Well, you just keep ‘em coming! I love seeing the humming birds fly around the feeder—and the painting of them Lori did is very impressive! Can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next!

John this is one of the coolest lamps I’ve seen. My wife, a big hummingbird lover thinks it’s adorable. You made points over here on this one. And yes the painting is excellent. Great video too.

Speaking of DUH, I went back and fixed my screwed-up text. I wonder if Lori can write? :-)

This one is definitely ”for the birds”! But I still like it a lot.

I hope you didn’t take that as an insult John!
