Well heres my second bandsaw box. Made from Purple heart, soft maple and ebony. I had more trouble with this one than my first mostly due to underestimating how long I needed to complete it for my youngest daughters 21st B-Day. She loves it and I guess thats what counts but I definatly need more practice on the BS and technique on the belt sander. The finish is spar urethane with a top coat of renaissance wax. I chose the spar urethane in an attempt to prolong the inevitable “Daddy can you make it purple again?” and the wax to help hide finger prints. Cyndi told me the colors she wanted after She saw the one I made the grand princess and to make it shine!! She also wanted it to match the recurve I built her 3 years ago. I’ll be posting that later. Thanks to those who answered my cry for help when after I was done putting on the finnish only to realize I forgot to glue on the pulls. I ended up scuffing the drawer fronts up and used an epoxy. So far so good. Yes that is me in the last pic with Cyndi and the grand princess

Spectacular, especially for your second box. The design is wonderful and your choice of woods is top notch. I’m sure she will enjoy it forever and pass it along in the family.

A great choice of complimentary colors. well done!
Might I offer some advice re the gaps around the drawers .. to make them more even add a little shim of timber or felt to the bottom of the drawers. this will also help with the smooth opening,.

Rick, that is one awesome box. Used to come to Tacoma a lot. Always had to eat at CI Shenanigans at least once each trip. Beautiful place to live.

Good choice of woods and it’s a wonderful design. I love how the little drawer comes out of the top. You’ve just created an heirloom!

Rick, I like it alot. I have seen so many bandsawn boxes lately that just fall short of looking great. Yours is the first one I have seen that jumps out at me. The drawer spaces are even, and the lines are clean. Good job, and I bet your daughter is excited.

Rick, this is a gorgeous box. You chose a nice combination of woods and, the look, on your daughter’s face says more than enough about how pleased she is with the box. I have been meaning to try a bandsaw box and this one is certainly an inspiration.

Now if’n I had myself a bandsaw I’d make a box… but it wouldn’t/couldn’t look that good. Definitely eye ‘candy’, reminds me of hard candy. Very clean and elegant look.
