This project has been years in the development cycle. I finally came to a conclusion and decided to use some wood that I had salvaged out of some old buildings. All of the horizontal slabs are full of nails, I pulled them out where I could but some just snapped off. I’ve found that when this happens the best COA forward is to take a punch and drive the steel down 3/8 or so. I can luckily say that I did not strike any nails when machining those pieces. The post are box beams made of wormy red oak that I got from Will Ferrell’s twin, and there just might be some hidden storage in them? The headboard will eventually have either an abstract like”” or maybe a scratch carving but I don’t feel like it now. The head and footboards are attached with 3/8 threaded inserts, if I ever get a king sized mattress it will give me the ability splice in some pieces to make up the extra. The angled mortise and tennon was a first for me. This was a challenging project for me, I made several mistakes but as a jobsite foreman once said: “on every job there will be mistakes, it’s how you address them that counts”. Finished with 4 coats of varathane waterbased, good stuff-highly recommend it
