Browsing Brontos was the first in my series of animated lamps. It all started with a small clip-on lampshade that I noticed on the Lamps Plus website and a memory from Jurassic Park.

At first, I was calling it Grazing Brontos. But when I was doing a little research on the basic shape of a brontosaurus, I learned that creatures who eat with their heads up are called browsers, while those who eat with their heads down—like cows—are called grazers.

So the next time you hear someone say, “I’m just browsing”, feel free to correct them if they’re looking down—it’s a great way to make new friends. :-)

Ooops. Almost forgot the video … https://vimeo.com/130651163

Thanks, guys! My favorite part of the lamp is something that wasn’t planned. I drilled registration holes in the cams for alignment, and then hogged out as much as I could to reduce the mass. It wasn’t until the final assembly that I noticed I’d made smiley faces. :-) :-)

Another fun lamp, wonder if my kids are too old to appreciate this (teens).

That is WAY COOL! Is it motorized, or are you cranking it from below?

Oh, and nice choice on the background music.

JoeinGa: The cams are driven with a 16-RPM line voltage continuous duty synchronous timing motor.
Say that three times fast. :-)

Rick M.: Why is it that fun has to be limited to kids ???
My son loves it and he’s 43. Same goes for my cat—she turned 20 in June.

Good stuff, John! My 28year old paleontologist-since-he-was-three would love it too. Gonna send him a link. Like the smiley faces, too! Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Candy. It’s all yours for $29.95 … monthly … for a long, long, long time. :-)

But seriously …
Every time I make one of my animated lamps, I have a EUREKA !!! moment that I apply to the next lamp. And so on, and so on, and …

You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. The best is yet to come!

p.s. —You missed a comma—”... love it, too.” But you do get extra points for the hyphenated compound noun.

I love this one, John. It’s really and eye catcher. Nice work.
