Very nice Brody,

I made one similar once, for a Granddaughter.

A nice project for the lathe.

I was wondering how a top would work, down under. <(;O}#

Brody, I have a young niece that I think needs one of these really bad. Could you tell me what the spinning point is made of? Thanks for posting.

Dick, & Barb Cain- sorry my mistake, its a spinning bottom :D

Grant- the point is made from a sharped nail. While it was still on the lathe, i drilled a pilot hole to stop the wood from splitting and drove the nail in. then I turned the lathe on and held a file to the nail, grinding off the head and sharpening it to a point.
I will be posting a blog on it within the next few weeks

Thanks for your comments everyone

I had a look on your projects today and was amazed by what you produced so far and in this age. I liked all of them and I'm wondering what you will do in the next few years. Sure, you will be one of the best woodturners around the globe. Good on you, Brody. I'm sorry for being so late to visit your page.
Very nice spinning BOTTOM.

thanks Sam
I think I will start doing some hollow forms and maybe some carved pieces. I also plan to do some more "flatwork", like tables and boxes etc.
thanks for the kind words and I hope to meet up with you one day.

May I suggest something for the point in the spinning top. I think sharp nail is not the right choise. for my spinning top I used RIVET and worked very nicely. BUT you have to revese the little tube, take it out and put it back up side down. It has round end and dose not damage the surface of anything you spin it on.
