This is what I first found when tearing up carpet in my home…I had intended on putting down new carpet but look what I found!!
The next picture is months later after neck breaking sanding and poly in every room but my den. Found out my whole house except the addition/den was perfect hardwood flooring that just needed to be sanded and poly’ed since being covered up for 40 some years! I know this is just floors but its the only project I have to post so far. Six pieces of baseboard don’t count:)

You did a really nice restoration job on the floors. The floors turned out beautifully. I know that it is a lot of work and dust but it was well worth the effort in the end. I am sure that this is the largest woodworking project that you will complete. :)

GREAT JOB!!! I have done quite a few of these and I know how much work is involved. It looks to me that you did a better job than most pros. Keep it up.

I used a stain of miniwax cherry wood color to cover some of the mars and glue spots I couldn’t get up, that was easy, just used a rag and went with the grain. The stain was easy after the floors were sanded down. BY GOSH the sander from Lowes was a fatty too…. It did a great job but used my hand sander in the corners with 80 grit then up to 120.
I learned that in the kitchen you can’t stop when staining, you have to do it all at once or get different shades.
Used a Honey Satin Pine all in one (never folks and I can’t elaborate more) EVER use an all in one stain/sealer/poly. I tried that in the hallway and whoo doggies it looked like crap. Went back over it and used the stain and after four coats of water based poly have a beautiful house!
At least my mistakes were in the hallway and not the living room:)

good job, i’m moving into a house with oak floors (now carpeted) and will tea up the carpet and refinish the wood, but a can’t think of a way to hide the 10 million nail holes all around the perimeter of the room from the carpet nail strip. i thought maybe a painted strip on the floor, i don’t want to use stain as i like the light oak color… also thought of a really thick base board..

Great job Wildfire, Don’t you just love the taste of sanding dust in the morning? My 100 year old house had old hardwood floors with 8” oak baseboards when I moved in. The former owner sat and smoked in a chair in the living room. Obviously falling asleep many times and allowing the cigarettes to fall and burn the floor completely surrounding the chair. Don’t know why he or she didn’t burn the whole place down. You learned sanding and staining the same way I did, hard but gratifying every time you look at the results. Thanks for posting. Don

Well blowing the dust outta my nose from sanding the floors was a cake walk compared to the dry wall experience.. House looked like a 100lb bag of flour exploded in here for weeks. At least the wood dust smelled good! Putting up dry wall was easy untill I found out the studs were put in half arsed and hence I have what I call my Jimmy Hoffa wall, cause it looks like there is a body hidden in there.
369dgk, I can’t tell you how to hide those million nail/carpet tack holes. I chalk mine up to “why hide them it gives the age appeal” :):)
You folks are the best!

As a remodeling contractor I know exactly what you are talking about with the all of the work that you did.
I dust collect as much as possible while I work. I have a great reputation with my clients for having a neat and clean jobsite.
You did a great job and I can tell that you learned a lot.
