This specific project came up in conversation with a friend about the inability to find specific wooden boxes in a variety of sizes anywhere. They had been searching garage sales, farmers markets, and anywhere else they could think of for boxes of these types. Nothing seemed to be available no matter where they looked, or if they were available they were in bad need of repairs.
They remembered their grandparents having them around when they were growing up and wanted to create memories and continue traditions with their children and grand children.
So as most interesting projects begin so did this one, with a question. “I would love one of these boxes! Can you build one for me?”

It looks very functional. I bet they were quite pleased.

You need to find some old advertising to paste on the sides of the box.

Looks like a well made box. Did you build it to their memory of the boxes that their grandparents had or did you do some research to come up with the design? How many boxes did you make for them?

Like Karson said, add some advertisement to the sides, and then age it a little to look older. It would look like a collectors item then. Good job.

Love them Rockies!
Great box, too. Maybe you could add some routed handles in the sides. That is all I would change. Maybe I will copy it. I love to use those old crates that—do you remember—milk came in on your front porch?!?

Tks …I actually did have routed handles in the original plan but for some reason didn’t get them in any yet…I like the ideas of the old advertisements…and the aged look….gosh with all these great minds working together we can only keep growing in knowledge…tks for sharing ideas..
Hawg: I have heard of milk on front porch but cant say i have experienced that..most of ours on the farm came straight from the source..
Os: so far have only made one but have plans for several more in my head…did some web research and from memory on design…box is made out of pine

You could print old adds from your computer and use diluted tea in a fine mist to age the paper.

Grandpa was sappose to come up with toy boxes. Thank you for the idea.
I do not know if you are interested in labels but I know of a web sight that sells old unused labels in bulk. Isn’t retirerment great!

This would make a quick project that would be pleasing. The label idea is a great way to top it off.
