This is a small table I made for our entrance. Sorry about the gloomy light – its winter now…
A bit scary for me – first time I tapered legs, and also first time I made a table with beveled legs.
turned out not bad, IMHO, but most of its beauty is in the wood.
the wood is heart Rimu. Finished with danish oil, poly and wax

I like this table, nice design. The narrower leg look really good. What is Rimu? it sure is beautiful.

Rimu is a native NZ timber (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacrydium_cupressinum). You will never find it in your local timber yard, I suspect, as it is really rare now. most of the timber we get is from recycled buildings (they used to use it for EVERYTHING. My garage is actually made of it). There is a huge difference between heart and sap wood. the sap wood is a bit plain. the heart has amazing grain and colour. you can see another example of its many faces in this board .

Thanks for all the comments. I really like this table. actually, it started as i bought 13 small table tops from a furniture shop for nothing, so I had to make some tables for the tops, right?. I made this table in what I thought was appropriate style and proportions to the top, but my wife said that the top was not as nice as the table, so I made a new top. Anyone wants 13 table tops from totara with walnut inlay?

Love the table – good craftsmanship, great design and beautifully simple. Gotta love that Rimu too.
