Twist of Cane

This is maple wrapped in walnut. The handle is birdseye maple. It is for my step mom. All comments are welcome. With Mark DeCou’s blessing, I intend to build a stand for this in the ‘DeCou’ style.

Beautiful!

Did you laminate the two woods before carving?

Dick, Yes I did. I found some strong maple and wrapped all four sides of it three/eights of walnut. It was a lot of work to get the twists just right and then sand them out. Took about ten hours. It was so rewarding though and I think she will love it. It is so tough to get a good picture of a cane! I need to do it like Mark does.

very nice. I like how the contrasting wood in the shaft looks when you carve it away for the twist, very unique.

Good work, She’ll love it.

Interesting technique on the shaft. I like the roundness of the handle. Now keep the brainwaves moving and keep creating!

I just found out that this was stolen from my mother. If you see it anywhere, which is doubtful, take it back!
