Here are a couple of pictures of a box I made my wife for Valentines Day. The body is made out of Walnut and the lid I made out of Purple Heart with the handle out of Walnut.

I like it! A bit dark overall, perhaps, but well executed and the finishing and joinery look good.
Although I don’t know that I would ever have considered purpleheart & mahogany, they do work together.
But, it matters little what the rest of us think – what’s important is how your wife feels about it and if you are pleased with your results.

Nice job. The Mahogany looks more like Walnut in the pictures.

I would have guessed Walnut as well . What kind of stain did you use on the Mahogany ?

You know what I am mistaken the wood used was Walnut and not a Mahogany it was scrap I had laying around and didn’t mark. I am still learning my woods “color, grain” so please forgive me for the mistake. What I used for the finish was again Tung oil I can’t seam to get away from it. It brings out the full color and grain features on wood.
