Hawaiian Koa Cigar Pen, in platinum

Project by scottb posted 250 days ago 297 views 0 times favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I was going to say, ‘another day, another cigar’ But apparently that’s what I said last time I posted the sister of this gorgeous koa pen in my first 30 days challenge.

My first intentional remake of a pen. (cause the other one sold). I guess it really is one of my favorites, and thus, this one isn’t for sale… I love the swirly burley look of this wood. Reminds me of walnut burl, but easier to work. This pen is finished with Walnut oil to bring out the gorgeous grain, and high build friction polish.

about Koa, copied from my earlier post:

One of the fastest growing Hawaiian trees, Acacia Koa was used by the ancient Hawaiians to build dugout canoes. The reddish wood is sought for use in wood carving, musical instruments, and furniture. Koa is also a tonewood, often used in the construction of ukuleles, acoustic guitars, the Weissenborn-style Hawaiian steel guitar and longboards.

Koa is such a beatiful wood….great grain and color….it makes wonderful pens….I keep several blanks around for turning as it also has a good shelf life….

Very nice pen…great job.
