First few pens I made, not a huge fan of the legacy slimlines, though they were cheap to learn on, I prefer the European style, little fatter (had a hard time getting these thin enough and still look like I wanted, i still think I should have gone thinner).
First pic is juniper, second manzanita, third purple heart, and forth was one out of olive wood and one right on the sap line of a black walnut.

I like em all. I really like the Walnut and sapwood in the mix. But then, I like just about all woods with some sapwood incorporated into a project

thank you, and yes I agree, I think sap wood is under utilized, just got a walnut board that is going to be the top of a mantel with a X shaped sap inclusion in the middle of it, wife loves it, adds a lot of character to the wood if used correctly.
