My little girl is all grown up. Found a guy who I hopefully wont have to kill someday, is going to college on a scholarship, and decided to get her first apartment. She asked me for some shelves for the new place and being her dad, only the best would do. These were made with Goncalo Alves (tigerwood) and wenge. I inset two lines of casting resin mixed with glow in the dark powder, an idea I got off the internet. Goncalo Alves is officially my new favorite wood. I couldn’t believe the look of it when I put the first coat of finish on… WOW. Of course, WOW was also the impression I got when I saw the receipt at the lumber yard. For some reason the finish went a tiny bit cloudy on the one side of Wenge, but still wasn’t bad. Other than that I was extremely pleased with how this turned out and my daughter and her boyfriend loved them. It gets harder and harder to be the hero to your daughter after they hit the teenage years, but I recaptured the dream for a few days! :) Thanks for looking. (FYI, the main pic was taken when I hung them up in my shop to take the pic, her apartment actually has walls. :))

Dang! That’s a nice shelf indeed!
And yeah, I was gonna ask if your daughter was moving into a place with no finished walls! LOL

Very nice looking set of shelves—definitely don’t find those at IKEA!

WOW! is right! That is some gorgeous lumber, Dan! I’ve seen that glow in the dark stuff in other projects, really like the effect here.
Thanks for sharing.

Great job, dad. Make sure you show BF this page, so he knows the possible consequences if he doesn’t treat your little girl right. ;-)

Thanks for the kind words everyone! And Gary, I’ve made him well aware of the dire consequences :) Besides, my daughter might scare him as much as I do when she’s mad. Ha.

Very nice shelves for her first place. I am willing to bet no one else at he school will have any as nice.

Dan I think you need to buy this T-Shirt.

Ordered the glow in the dark powder from www.resinobsession. Com. Have used in in a few projects since and works really well.

Have your say...
