This is my first extensive woodworking project and it really challenged my skills.
The walnut for the project was given to me by my dad. He had it stored in a shed for the last 25 years. The wood was pretty rough looking and dirty when I got it but, it planed up nicely. I didn’t show the rough lumber (and I mean rough: dirt daubers, spider webs, worm holes etc) to my wife; out of fear that she would dislike the project from the start.
Needless to say, she loved the finished product. She filled it with keepsakes within the first hour it was in the house. I had a small brass plate engraved with a sentimental saying. I mounted the plate to the base.
I cut the crown molding on my tablesaw and used mortise and tenon joinery for the doors.
The cabinet stands a little over six feet high. It was a beast to move from my shop to the dining room.
IThanks for looking and have a great day.
Ben

Very nice, great craftsmanship for a first.
Barb would also have this filled in no time.

Hey toolman , Great looking project, I must say I am partial to walnut, did you build it from plans or something you drew up? Please, I’m not being critical, but if it were me, I think I would have used glass shelves and only because you can put lights in the top and have them cast interesting shadows. Looks like you are well on your way to becoming a master craftsman. Well done !

Great looking corner cabinet. You did a beautiful job on this piece. I can see why your wife would have been pleased with her gift. I always enjoyed building corner cabinets if you care to look. Thanks for posting.
God Bless

Thanks for all of the the comments.
Doug, I did use plans to build it. I toyed with the idea of using glass shelves and lights but the wood was free so I stuck to the plans. I do agree that glass shelves are probably a better choice for a curio cabinet.
ND2ELK I really liked your corner cabinets. The gun cabinet was especially nice.
