One of the nurses at the hospital asked me to make her a growth ruler for her (she was pregnant at the time). I had already made one basic ruler so I wanted to spice it up a little. Out of a spare red alder board I beveled the sides, and inlaid some rosy quartz and malachite flowers on the top and some crushed obsidian and abalone (which the iridescence doesn’t show up in the picture, just looks silver) in the numbers. Here comes my mistake, for some reason I thought inlaying walnut and mahogany in each of the little dashes was a good idea….well if you think the same, let me tell you I would never do that again lol, I left a piece of my sanity with this project. All said and done it turned out nice for my second ruler.

Cool idea to inlay everything. I think you did a good job. I built one of these for my two kids. It’s interesting to see how they grow. I like knowing I’ll have that ruler forever as a memento.
