A cuttingboard…sort of. I’m not going to cut on it! This is the American Flag as it was at the start of the civil war, 35 stars. This is a gift for my sister and brother-in-law who are civil war buffs. The proportions are to scale, give or take 1/8”. Maple, bloodwood and walnut. Stars are maple. 20” x 10.625” x 1.25”
This was a 3 step glue up:
First the walnut was glued, the stars placed and installed, and the right side jointed.
Then the 7 stripes to the right of the walnut were glued up on their own and the left side jointed to mate with the walnut.
Then these 2 sections were glued up with the rest of the stripes.
Planed on my router jig, sanded to 400, an identical chamfer put on both sides and finished with danish oil, sanded with 800 and then wipe on poly…obviously not meant for use as a cuttingboard.
This was a fun one to see come together. I kind of hate to give it away! :)
Thanks for looking.

Thanks for all the nice comments everyone! For anyone checking my historical facts ;)...I misspoke in the description. This was the flag at the end of the war. I am having a plate made for the back that has the following inscription.
West Virginia was admitted into the Union on June 20, 1863. Per US Law, a new American flag was put into service with the addition of a 35th star on the following July 4th.
On Independence Day 1865, a 36th star was added for Nevada, having been admitted into the Union on October 31st, 1864, thus ending the 2 year life of the 35-star American flag.
This 2 year period spanned the heart of the Civil War and saw the battle at Gettysburg in July 1863, the surrender at Appomattox and the assassination of President Lincoln in April 1865.
