I think my wife is finally getting into my woodworking. A few weeks back we were in Lowe’s and she told me that I needed to tell her what I wanted for my birthday. We happen to be in the power tool section at the time. Kidding her I said, “oh you can get me one these Dewalt Planers.” She said ok and I thought no more about it, until her text this morning which said, “I’m going to lunch. Thought I’d run to Lowe’s and buy your birthday present.” She’s purchased a few smaller items for me in the past but never anything like this.

I learned an important fact through it all. She IS listening when I talk about the tools I need. She had heard me talking many times about how useful a good planer would be.

The Dwalt DW735 was the one benchtop planer I was impressed with. Having it will allow me to buy lots of rough lumber which is generally a huge savings compared to prepared lumber.

Word to self. Talk a lot about tools needed next year in months leading up to birthday. Perseverance!

Now to build a planer table.

Good for you bud. I’ve had one for about 6 months and love it.

I told my wife before we got married that when I got her an engagement ring she needed to get me rickenbacker bass (1400$ or so).

Still waiting… I guess some seeds never sprout.

You should know by now that this is not the right place for this…........ You were FORCED to click on the following when creating this project:

Yes, I want to post my finished project that is made of wood If it doesn’t fit the above description (like tool gloats & upgrades, wood gloats, projects in progress etc.),
either blog it or post it in an appropriate forum. Otherwise it will be removed.

Let’s play by the rules, shall we???

You can always slip words in conversation to her to trigger her subconscious… “Hello Darling! I hope you had a good chisel day today and that the lathe meeting you were at didn’t have that chisel abs guy in it today” :P

Nice machine. My wife & sons buy me tools for birthday & Christmas gifts too. One of our sons bought me a Lie-Nielson 9” Cabinet Maker’s Rasp for my birthday that I am using a lot this summer to get ready for my show.

Enjoy you new machine

Geez….The guy is very happy about a great gift from his wife. I am happy for him.

Yes, he posted it in the wrong place…in this case why make a big deal out of it. Be happy for him.

Ok maybe I got a little over zealous and wasn’t thinking when I posted. Sorry about that. But how many times does a woodworker’s wife blow you out of the water by purchasing a complimentary toy for what we love to do? Was just in a hurry to post is all. I’ll try to watch where I post.

Thanks to those who commented. I hope your other half is as accommodating as my wife of 28 years.

How petty it is to bang on a guy for a misposting. Im sure because of this post national security will be compromised and everyone on this site will have their personal information leaked resulting in the loss of 48.7 million dollars in 401k money. Cmon with that.

Congrats on the new planer spanky!! Time to crank out a project for your lovely wife. Enjoy the new tool buddy.

Well I understand there are rules. Can’t let one get by or all will do it. That’s why I have sent an email to have the post removed. I’ll post later on my blog.

You are right chrisstef, I certainly will build several projects for my wife. She has actually worked with me on some projects. She might turnout to be a woodworker as well. She received one project at Christmas last year but I have many in mind. And this new tool will really help.

I wouldn’t feel too smug, she will expect (demand) a similar understanding from you on her birthday. And don’t think a small wooden trinket will suffice.
