Project Information

I'm finally posting a project!

This plaque (clock?) was made as a gift for my MIL. I found this piece of mesquite at a local sawyer, and she fell in love with it. Unfortunatly, the pictures don't do the wood justice. It really is an incredible specimen.

The engraving was done with a router, and it has a small clock fitting. I added a small shelf to give the straight cut some purpose.

Finish was 2 coats of BLO/MS/Varnish followed by ? coats of MS/Varnish. (Cabots Gloss #8000)

I forgot to measure it, but it is about 24" wide by 18" tall.

Thanks for looking.

Great looking piece, love the figure and live edge. Have been wondering for some time. What is BLO / MS. Got the varnish part, but lost on the abbreviations.
Lucky Mother In Law. Any married man will understand that abbreviation.
Thanks in advace for the info.

BLO = Boiled Linseed Oil
MS = Mineral Spirits

I use equal parts of each and use it as a wiping varnish.

Thanks for looking.

Hey Marko
that's a wonderful plaque. The clock is still to come?

Very nice work, Tim! The clock and the engraving are visible but not flashy, letting the figure of the wood take center stage. I like this.

Beautifull figure on that mesquite! Fantastic finnish! Love the live edge.

BTKS, I think all us newcomers have had to research those letters. ( I know I did) haha
